The Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) was established in March 1, 1997 by Seoul National University to offer its students multi-disciplinary education and to train international and area specialists, including the EU. Since then, it has grown into a centre of academic training and research. The GSIS offers two-year postgraduate MA programs in the field of: International Commerce, International Cooperation, Korean Studies and International Area Studies. As a member of APSIA, GSIS is now recognized as a leading institution in its area.

The SNU EU Centre was established on March 1, 2006, combining the academic and research unit of the EU Studies Program at GSIS and the research unit of the Europe Division of KIEP to develop the national and East Asian hub for EU studies. The Centre is the first EU Centre in Korea supported by the European Commission. Since then, the SNU EU Centre has conducted various activities with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
